Session Report: March 25, 2007
The Pacer was a good choice for today. I sailed with a 9.5 all sfternoon. The lake was pretty busy today, but sailing craft dominated. There was a steady 15mph+ breeze. Near the end of the day we were entertained with a kite show on the water.
Wild Wednesday Session Report: 03/21/07
I’m glad I stuck with it and went out regardless of the downgraded forecast. NOAA gets another bad grade from me for their forecasting abilities. Even the RUC maps were way off, which have, in the past, proven to be more accurate than the point forecast.
I sailed the 5.7 longer than I should have, but I love the feeling of all that power. When I was losing control with the 5.7, I came in and maxed out the downhaul, and outhaul. I also switched to a smaller wave fin. With the speeds I was traveling, there was no problem with the wave fin maintaining its holding power with the 5.7. Around 2 o’clock I finally rigged down to a 5.0 because my body just didn’t have the strength left to manage the 5.7. I had plenty of power with the 5.0 and finished the last 2 hours of my session with it. My legs started to cramp up on me, and that’s when I finally called it quits.
This is, by far, the biggest day I have sailed at the corner. The corner is my favorite spot for its accessibility and convenience. It’s easy to come in for a quick drink or take a break without sacrificing upwind work to get to the wind. The wind is in your face the whole time.
